One of the tell-tale signs that summer is just around the corner is the spring announcement that downtown Naperville’s summertime sculptures will soon be parked on street corners, dotting the landscape with colorful and whimsical attractions.

“From book benches to hearts to dinosaurs to sailboats…we’ve had such fun and creative sculptures over the years,” Danielle Tufano, executive director of the Downtown Naperville Alliance, noted in a press release.

For summer 2022, the theme for the sculpture is Cruising Into Summer. As a result, an incredible 16 vans will be scattered throughout downtown, Tufano continued.

With the exception of 2020, the Downtown Naperville Alliance has been coordinating the creation and installation of the sculptures to add fun and style to the downtown central business district since 2012.

“The pickup trucks will be on display from June 1 through Labor Day weekend. Walk around downtown and enjoy the painted creations,” Tufano added.

In 2015, street corners were adorned with sculptures during the holiday season to attract shoppers and diners downtown. Then the Downtown Naperville Alliance came up with the brilliant idea of introducing the signage to showcase the downtown area throughout the summer. And There you go ! Cheers!

Editor’s note / One more thing! The Downtown Naperville Alliance will host “Characters on Main” in downtown Naperville from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4 (May 4 will be with you, got it?)

According to Tufano, the costumed characters will spend an hour on Main Street between Jefferson and Jackson Avenues, providing free photo opportunities. Unfortunately, this event won’t take place if it’s raining… but fingers crossed that the force will be strong in downtown Naperville on Wednesday!
