PORTLAND, OR (KOIN) – Statues at the Beverly Cleary Sculpture Garden in Portland were vandalized on Wednesday.

Bronze sculptures of beloved Cleary characters Ramona and Henry at Grant Park in northeast Portland were tagged with paint at some point during the night, as seen in the images below. The words “racist b—-” were also written in paint under the Ramona statue.

Portland Parks and Recreation knows the statues have been tagged. When KOIN asked for comment, a PPR spokesperson called the incident unfortunate and said the Regional Arts and Culture Council was responsible for the story.
