Penticton celebrates the return of Ironman with a call for artists to create a new mural – Penticton News

Win $4,000 for Ironman Mural

The City of Penticton is calling on artists to submit proposals for a new outdoor mural near Okanagan Lake, to celebrate the long-awaited imminent return of Ironman Canada.

Artists have until July 8, 2022 to submit a design proposal along with examples of previous work. The winning drawing will earn the artist $4,000 through a grant from the provincial government.

The art will be installed by the municipality on the west wall of 185 Lakeshore Drive, facing the start point of the triathlon swim event.

It will be ready the week of August 17, just in time for Ironman’s return on August 28.

“The city is proud to welcome IRONMAN Canada back to Penticton, where the iconic race began nearly 40 years ago,” said Carly Lewis, Economic Development Manager.

“We envision this mural capturing the spirit of this event and helping to tell the story of its history and significance to Penticton.”

The successful artwork will be photographed and reproduced as a graphic on the exterior wall surface. Designs should be divided into four panels representing four main themes: swimming, cycling, running, and community/volunteering.
