Organizers of Felabration, an annual music and arts festival commemorating the life and times of the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, say a total prize of N500,000 will be awarded to winners in the sixth edition of the competition. works of art from the festival.
Onyekachi Nwanya, social media manager for the Felebration artwork competition, made the point in Lagos on Thursday.
Nwanya, who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, said the competition comes after a call for applications for artists ahead of the 2022 edition of Felabration.
NAN reports that the theme for this year’s Felabration is “Fear Not 4 Man”.
Nwanya said three winners were to emerge from the art competition.
He said the winner of the competition would be rewarded with N250,000, while the first runner-up and second runner-up would go home with N150,000 and N100,000 respectively.
He said the submission portal for the artwork contest opened on June 15 and will close on July 31.
According to him, the competition is open to applicants and participants from all over the world.
Nwanya said that over the years, Felabration had provided a platform for stardom for young creatives and continued to be a fantastic opportunity for global recognition in the arts world.
He said, “The Artwork Exhibition and Selection of Winners of the Felabration Artwork Competition, as it is called, will be held at the New Afrika Shrine.
“Returning judges include Prince Yemisi Shyllon, Otunba Mufu Onifade and Sarah Boulos, highly regarded personalities and experts in the art world.
“The judges will decide on the winners, after which they will be announced at a ceremony within Felabration months.
“Other events planned for Felabration 2022 include Felabration Afrobics Dance Competition, 10th Annual High School Debate, Symposium, also known as FELA DEBATES, Fela-themed Fashion Show, The Dress Like Fela Day.”
Nwanya said it will be seven days of music concerts featuring Nigerian and international artists and “The Felabration Ladies” webinar.
